Attuned in Practice March 2025 Events with Dr Hilton Koppe

"From Byron Writers Festival to Harvard Medical School, Hilton Koppe has shared his passion for reflection and well-being."

Attuned in Practice is delighted to welcome Dr Hilton Koppe, Australian GP and author of One Curious Doctor – A Memoir of Medicine, Migration and Mortality, for a two-week
reflective writing tour across Ireland in March 2025.

Building on our dedication to supporting frontline healthcare workers, these sessions
highlight the power of Reflective Writing Workshops for Clinician Well-Being to help
practitioners process their experiences, maintain empathy, and reduce the risk of
burnout. During his visit, Dr Koppe will also present his thought-provoking ‘Enduring
Witness’ Book-in-Hand Play, which explores the shared journey of both patient and
doctor.

Event Highlights:

• Reflective Writing Workshops for Clinician Well-Being in Cork, Dublin, Belfast, and other locations.
• ‘Enduring Witness’ Book-in-Hand Play in Limerick and Kildare, offering an immersive look into the human side of healthcare.

This tour aims to spark conversations around clinician well-being and the importance of making reflection a core part of healthcare practice. We look forward to sharing more
updates throughout February and March on the positive impact of Dr Koppe’s visit.

Hilton Koppe

One Curious Doctor

In addition to his impactful workshops, Dr. Hilton Koppe is the author of One Curious Doctor, a heartfelt and insightful memoir that explores the emotional and ethical challenges faced by healthcare professionals. Through a series of compelling stories, he invites readers into the world of medicine, offering a glimpse into the human side of caregiving. The book not only reflects on the complexities of medical practice but also highlights the importance of self-compassion and reflective writing in sustaining a long and fulfilling career in healthcare.

This moving and thought-provoking read has resonated with healthcare workers and the broader community, providing a deep understanding of the connections and struggles that shape the lives of those who care for others. As Dr. Koppe explains, “Writing became my way to process the intensity of what it means to be a doctor, and through it, I found the humanity in medicine.”

During my final year of study as an occupational therapist, I attended a multidisciplinary pain management conference facilitated by Hilton. Hilton opened the day with a story and managed both to ground theory in the personal and to give the whole audience a shared experience at the start of the day. Hilton has an uncanny knack for delivering complicated information in an easy-to-access manner, grounded in the acknowledgement that we all have our own story.
