On May 30th, 2023, frontline practitioners and managers gathered both in-person at the serene Nano Nagle Place in Cork and online for the fourth annual Heart of Frontline Practice Conference. Themed "Connecting with Compassion in Diverse and Complex Settings," this one-day event was an opportunity for professionals to step back from their daily routines and reflect on the impactful nature of their work.

Reflective Insights from the 2022 Heart of Frontline Practice Seminar: Connecting and Relating in Diverse Settings

On May 24th, 2022, frontline practitioners gathered at Nano Nagle Place in Cork and online via Zoom for the Heart of Frontline Practice Seminar. This event, themed "Connecting and Relating in Diverse and Complex Settings," offered a day of intensive learning and reflection, led by experts in various aspects of frontline care and communication. Event Highlights: Joan Fletcher's Inclusion Workshop: Joan Fletcher, an experienced social worker and psychotherapist, led "From eggshells to allyship," a session on creating inclusive environments through discussions on race and diversity, offering practical insights for equality in frontline work. Dr. Tom A. Hutchinson's Communication Techniques: Dr. Hutchinson provided lessons on "Communication in professional relationships," inspired by Virginia Satir's methods, highlighting the distinction between curing and healing, and included exercises on effective communication strategies. Nickie Egan's Approach to Child Behaviour: Nickie Egan discussed "Be curious instead of furious," focusing on how understanding the reasons behind a child’s behavior can lead to more compassionate and effective interactions.

On May 25th, 2021, Ireland's frontline practitioners convened online for the impactful "Reconnecting with the Heart of Frontline Practice" seminar. This virtual event provided a nourishing space for professionals across healthcare, social care, education, and the justice sector to reflect deeply on the resilience and emotional demands of their crucial roles.

Insights from the First National ‘Reconnecting with the Heart of Frontline Practice’ Seminar 2020

On 26th November 2020, after a postponement due to Covid-19, frontline practitioners including doctors, nurses, teachers, and social workers convened online for the inaugural "Reconnecting with the Heart of Frontline Practice" seminar. This virtual event was designed to offer a reflective and supportive community space for professionals to reconnect with the emotional values and mission that initially drew them to their roles.
On 20th February 2024, frontline practitioners joined an insightful online "Touchpoint Session" titled "Exploring Vulnerability and Resilience in Frontline Practice." This two-hour event, conducted via Zoom, was facilitated by Dr Aisling McMahon, a respected clinical psychologist, integrative psychotherapist, and clinical supervisor.
On 17th October, the Heart of Frontline Practice Alliance hosted a vital online session as part of their Touchpoint Series, focusing on 'Relationship-based practice in social work and social care management'. The event, expertly facilitated by Sylvia Smith, was held from 11am to 1pm and drew on her extensive experience in health and social care.
In May 2023, frontline clinicians gathered at Nano Nagle Place in Cork for an enriching specialist workshop titled "Relating to Patients: Connection, Awareness, Relationship, Engagement." Led by Dr. Tom A. Hutchinson, a renowned expert in Whole Person Care from McGill University, Canada, the workshop provided a unique experiential learning opportunity for physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals.

In the latest instalment of the Heart of Frontline Practice Touchpoint Series, hosted on 28th February 2023 at Northridge House, Blackrock, Cork, frontline practitioners gathered for a vital discussion on “Exploring Psychological Safety in Teams”. The session, led by Dr Maeve Hurley and facilitated by Martin O’Connor, focused on building safe and supportive environments within professional teams.
On Tuesday 15th November, the Heart of Frontline Practice alliance hosted a poignant session at the Northridge Education & Research Centre in Mahon, Cork. This 2.5-hour workshop, led by Dr. Naomi Masheti, focused on 'Inclusive Practice: Breaking the silence around race and mental health'. Dr. Masheti, coordinator of Cork Migrant Centre and a seasoned expert in the psychosocial wellbeing of Sub-Saharan African migrant children, facilitated a deep dive into these critical issues.
